Frequently Asked Questions

CRI is Color Rendering Index.  This is a numerical value of up to 100, the maximum CRI possible.  The higher the CRI, the better the light is of truly representing the actual color of the environment, object or person under the light.

The CRI will differ from light to light so please check the specification information or contact IDC customer service for specific CRI values.

LED’s last a long time and much longer than their incandescent and CFL counterparts.  An LED operated at 3 hours / day with a rated life of 10,000 hours will last over 9 years, 25,000 hours will last over 22.8 years and 50,000 hours will last over 45.6 years.

Lumens (lm) are the measure of the total amount of visible light from a lamp or light source.  The higher the lumens, the greater the light output.

Traditional incandescent light bulbs are rated by the amount of wattage they consume.  Equivalent LED bulbs consume far less energy (watts), but will display a wattage equivalency to help the consumer understand which bulb they should purchase as a LED replacement for their incandescent bulbs.

A D2D sensor is an embedded photocell within certain products that sense sunlight and will activate a light fixture automatically when low light levels are detected and then de-activate the light fixture when higher levels are light are detected.

A motion sensor is an embedded sensor that will detect movement and activate the light fixture for a period of time until no further motion is detected.  The motion sensor will also have an integrated D2D sensor so it will only activate at night.

Flickering can be caused by placing non-dimmable bulbs or fixture on a circuit controlled by a dimmer switch.  In the case when a fixture has a photocell, flickering may be caused by light reflection / feedback from snow, a full moon with a white background or other outside light source interfering with the D2D sensor’s light sensing level.

Linkable (related to our lighting products) means the ability to connect a maximum number of products together on the same circuitry.  Some of our items are linked together with plugs, some are linked with separate cables (provided) and some are linked wirelessly.  Please refer to your owner’s manual for detailed instructions on how to link your specific product and the maximum amount that can be linked.

CCT is the value given for the actual color tone of the light.  Most LED lights fall within the 2700k – 5000k range.  2700k is warm white which will produce more of an orange / yellow tone, 3000k is cool white which is less orange / yellow, 4000k is bright white and is more blue / white and 5000k is daylight which is more of a white tone.  2200k is also used, but less frequently and exhibits more of an amber tone.

Integrated LED’s are LED’s that are non-replaceable meaning they are part of the fixture.  The advantage of integrated LED’s is that they last a long time and require no frequent changing of bulbs.  These fixtures will last 25,000 hours or more typically.

The amount will vary based on what your previous light source was and what you will use to replace it, but we can use a light bulb comparison to provide one example.

Suppose you have 60W incandescent light bulbs currently in your house which you will replace with LED.  A typical LED replacement consumes 9W of energy.  Assuming you use these for 3 hours / day @ an average kWh of $.11 you can save hundreds of $’s over the life span.

A19 60W Incandescent

-Annual Energy Cost = $7.23

-Lifespan = 1500 hours

A19 9W LED

-Annual Energy Cost = 1.08

-Lifespan = 25000 hours

Total Annual Energy Savings = $6.15 / bulb

Total Lifetime Energy Savings:

1 Bulb = $131.79 in Energy + Cost of Replacing Bulb

2 Bulbs = $263.58 in Energy + Cost of Replacing Bulbs

5 Bulbs = $658.95 in Energy + Cost of Replacing Bulbs

Dimmable LED’s can be controlled within a dimming circuit, typically down to as low as 10% of their maximum light output.  Please check to see if your dimmer is listed as a compatible dimmer with our dimming enabled bulb and fixture products.
